St. Barbara's Day

Today, December 4th, is St. Barbara's Day and we want to take the opportunity to honor the tradition and importance of mining virtues! Barbara is the patron saint of miners, and on St. Barbara’s Day the miners traditionally light a light in the mine to protect them from misfortune and death in the mine.
Barbara is considered a martyr who lived at the end of the third century in the territory of present-day Turkey. Because she was held captive by her father who demanded that she renounce her Christian faith, she escaped and, in her flight, reached a cave that miraculously opened up before her, hiding her from her captors.
Today, many miners and other professions will be celebrating all over the world and we wish everyone a blessed St. Barbara’s Day!
