Hello, I work for a management consulting firm called Aranca and I am currently trying to understand the underground mining utility equipment landscape in Russia by interacting with experienced industry professionals. the equipment considered for the study are:

1. Charging Equipment

2. Scaling Equipment

3. Concrete Transportation Equipment

4. Concrete Spraying Equipment

5. Lifting & Installation Equipment

6. Underground Transportation Equipment

7. Underground Graders

As a seperate category we are also looking to develop an understanding of Rock Hauling trucks in the country.

We would be willing to pay an honorarium for the consultation.

Please do get in touch with me at : avijeets.thakur@aranca.com

  • Hi Avijeet,

    To accurately answer that question, one would need more detailed data, and work through each step in sequence eg;

Location of the mine, relevant to available services, climatic conditions and topography,

Budget (what is your capital expenditure budget)?

    life of mine,

    Annual production target(s),

Area geology and geological formations and structures,

Mining technique (open stopeing, cut & fill, shaft and winder etc),

    Mine infrastructure (greenfield/brownfield),

    Expected development (vertical/lateral),

    Mine dimensions (drive sizes),

    Production sequence etc, etc, etc.

To answer some of your questions,

Most commonly used charging equipment consists IT (tool carrier) with attachments/assemblies or baskets that contain the charging equipment and act as the work platform for personnel for the process. The individual process(s) chosen would be more than likely be subject to a investigation/survey to identify possible hazards or conditions that may affect or critically influence the process (such as reactive ground or water).

Other dedicated charging equipment is manufactured by companies like Getman, Charmec, Orica and Dyno Nobel.

Scaling. In the vast majority of UG mines is performed mechanically with the development Jumbo drill. It is performed during the development cycle ie: after the heading is mucked before ground support (shotcrete, mesh, bolts) are installed.

There are dedicated mechanical scaling machines manufactured by companies such as JAMA (AB Jama). However, this is a dedicated machine for one specific task.

There are quite a few concrete spraying equipment manufacturers and dedicated shotcrete contract companies. Again, this will depend on the individual requirement. However, concrete transport can be via trucks with agitator bowls or by transporting concrete bags on pallets via the use of a tool carrier with forks attached.

Generally, services and service equipment consist of Integrated Tool Carriers (IT’s) such as Caterpillar IT14/28/62 or Volvo etc etc. These tool carriers allow the interchangeable use of multiple attachments such as buckets, jibs, fork and man cages/work baskets through use a “quick hitch” system. IT’s are the standard equipment coupled with a work basket/platform for the installation of almost all services and lifting applications/requirements.

Underground transportation of……..personnel, equipment, ore ? You need to be more specific on this question.

Graders, most are generally unmodified graders you would commonly encounter in civil and mining operations (unless you specifically require a low clearance machine for a particular application). The size and/or model will be determined by the drive size of the mine. Although the most common practical size has a mould board around the 12 foot length (as a generality).

This is a very limited and basic overview to the questions you are seeking answers for. To determine the equipment that economically best suits your needs, you need accurate, reliable, verifiable data. The quality of that data, with sound calculations and metrics (like all inputs) should result in quality outputs and make for sound judgement.

Hopefully some of this information helps to steer you in the direction required.

    Regards,

    John.

  • good work.
