INTEGRACION DE TECNICAS PARA LA DETECCION Y EL DIAGNOSTICO DE FALLOS / INTEGRATION OF TECHNIQUES FOR FAULT DETECTION AND DIAGNOSIS

Las técnicas para la detección y el diagnóstico de fallos, medidas con criterios que definen la detección temprana y el diagnóstico, la discriminación entre diferentes fallas, robustez al ruido y la incertidumbre, identificación de fallas nuevas, identificación de fallas múltiples, facilidad de explicación de las fallas y adaptabilidad, adolecen de uno o más de estos criterios, lo que hace necesario un nuevo enfoque para resolver estas falencias. / Techniques for the detection and diagnosis of faults, measures with criteria that define early detection and diagnosis, discrimination between different faults, robustness to noise and uncertainty, identification of new faults, identification of multiple faults, ease of explanation of failures and adaptability, suffer from one or more of these criteria, which requires a new approach to resolve these shortcomings.

La detección y diagnóstico tempranos permiten asistir al personal de operaciones en plantas industriales acerca de las mejores acciones a tomar frente al estado real del proceso, evitando que fallos incipientes escalen a situaciones más críticas donde existirá riesgo de pérdida de vidas humanas, daño ambiental, y pérdidas económicas. / Early detection and diagnosis allow operating personnel in industrial process to be assisted with the best actions to take in the real state of the process, preventing incipient faults from escalating to more critical situations where there will be a risk of loss of human life, environmental damage, and economic losses.

La hipótesis de investigación es la siguiente: Integrando diversas técnicas para la detección y el diagnóstico de fallos, se logrará obtener los beneficios de todas ellas en conjunto. Los atributos deseados para un sistema de detección y diagnóstico de fallos han sido definidos previamente (Venkatasubramanian et al., 2003): Detección temprana y diagnóstico de fallos; discriminación entre diferentes fallos; robustez en presencia de ruído e incertidumbre; identificación de nuevos fallos; identificación de múltiples fallos; facilidad de explicación de resultados y adaptabilidad. Comparando diferentes métodos para la detección y el diagnóstico de fallos, de acuerdo a estos criterios, ninguna de las técnicas usadas hasta ahora cubre todos los atributos de evaluación (Dash & Venkatasubramanian, 2003; Biswas et al, 2004). Como resultado de esta comparación, una nueva aproximación se necesita para utilizar estas técnicas. / The research hypothesis is as follows: By integrating various techniques for fault detection and diagnosis, it will be possible to obtain the benefits of all of them together. The desired attributes for a fault detection and diagnosis system have been previously defined (Venkatasubramanian et al., 2003): Early fault detection and diagnosis; discrimination between different faults; robustness in the presence of noise and uncertainty; identification of new faults; identification of multiple faults; ease of explanation of results and adaptability. Comparing different methods for fault detection and diagnosis, according to these criteria, none of the techniques used so far cover all the evaluation attributes (Dash & Venkatasubramanian, 2003; Biswas et al, 2004). As a result of this comparison, a new approach is needed to use these techniques.
