Drill Blast Limitations in Underground Coal Mines

Dear All,

There was a firedamp (methane+air mixture) explosion in one of the UG coal mine in Turkey and 41 miners dead last month. The ignition source is still unknown.

There is no detail limitaitons for blasting in UG Coal Mine in Turkey (like total delay time, max charge quantity, max hole depth, etch.). As far as I know there are some limititaitons in the USA like;

- Hole spacing in coal is 60cm and is 46 cm in other formations

- MAx charge per hole: 3 pound (1,36 kg) in coal

- Max hole number per blast: 20 pieces (more hole depends on MSHA permission)

- Max delay time: 1000 ms

- Delay between holes: 50 ms and 100 ms

Could you please share limitations like in the USA for discussion.

Best regards.

    Hello Miners are dying in all countries. There are many control systems. They turn off the security systems themselves, otherwise the mine will be closed.

  • Regulations in Australia are a lot more restrictive:
