Australian Government: "Keep Digging"

Despite all the new regulations and restrictions to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Australian government has sent a clear message to all miners to continue digging in order to keep one of the country's biggest export industries operating. State and federal ministers agree that the resources sector is essential in maintaining a strong Australian economy.

In response to an increase in the unemployment rate, major iron ore miner BHP recently announced plans to recruit 1,500 workers to support the company's operations in the short term. The jobs will be spread across BHP's iron ore, coal and copper mines in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.

Rio Tinto has continued to operate most of its assets to fulfill customer orders. The company has changed its fly-in-fly-out employee roster to curb the potential spread of COVID-19. Rio Tinto will shift to a two-weeks-on/two-weeks-off roster, instead of the eight-days-on/six-days-off roster.

Fortescue Meals Group's FIFO workers also are about to experience a massive roster shake-up. The company announced the roster will change from a two-weeks-on/one-week-off schedule to four-weeks-on/two-weeks-off.

I am following 392 operational mining facilities in Australia.  Reach out!  thanks,
